The sound of wood against wood was never pleasant, but a drifted mind didn't care. It only took a few seconds for Morty to swiftly drag the creaking chair from one side of his living room to the other, underneath a bookcase piling with dust. The man took a second to analyze the shelf with an absent-minded smile, before tossing his scarf behind him and resting his foot on the chair. He shook his head with a light sigh before finally lifting his body up on the chair, his line of vision finally reaching the leather-bound books his grandfather left behind.
"Well, I just need to dust and organize these before two o' clock--" He brought his lanky fingers up to the books, being careful as he removed them with careful eyes. "I guess that only gives me forty minutes, but Gym challenges can't wait."

Whitney bounced up to the familar gym of her friend and skipped through the doors without so much as a pause or a second look at anyone in the gym. They were used to her intrusions by now, and one of the gym trainers simply nodded in the direction of Morty, already know what she was there for.
"Thanks!" she replied with a quick wave and giggle.
She bounded into the room, tiptoeing up behind Morty and covering his eyes with her hands. "Guess who~" She already knew that he'd be able to recognize her, but it was a fun game to play nonetheless.

He heard the familiar squeak of the bubbly girl, and chuckled to himself with eyes closed. Instinctively, he rested his books back onto the shelf when he felt her warm hands cover his view-- he decided to play her game.
"Oh? Whoever could it be?" Patting the dust from his hands, only to be courteous, he held onto one of her wrists and gained half of his vision again, turning around to greet her with a nod and a small grin.
"Whitney, you always appear whenever I'm short on time--" He stepped down from the chair, ignoring the creaking, blinking. "What's led you over here this time?

She giggled and knelt down next to him on the floor, smiling widely. "It must be a gift!" Her eyes traveled along the bookshelf, glistening with curiosity. "What're you up to? Actually, why are you so pressed on time anyway?"
Whitney clapped her hands together, stopping him from replying. "Wait, wait, wait! I know what I'm here for-- There's a sale on scarves not too far from here~"

A knock on the door. "Hey, Morty...? I hope you don't mind, I decided to-" He walked in, and his eyes narrowed at the sight of Whitney.
"...Am I interrupting something?"

((yay yay yay for having a job to keep me busy and reply late sob)) The man blinked at the girl, his hair casually falling in front of his amused eyes. He chuckled and lifted a hand to ruffle the girl's hair, knowing that she would disapprove. He had to admit, having her company was always nice.
"Ah, you see, I promised one of the Kimono girls a book. However, I can't find it, so cleaning is in order." Another absentminded smile creeped onto his face. "I know you know how being a gymleader presses for time, and I have a challenge in an hour."
He hesitated before he spoke, his eyes scanning the room for a feather duster while keeping his attention on the bubbly redhead. "Oh? Well, erm, I'm glad you thought of me, princess, but as you can, uh, see--" he raises his hands, palm up, and pointed them towards the bookshelf, and the challenger in the room. He flashed a puzzled grin at the girl, lightly chuckling before letting out a sigh. As his door swung open, he couldn't help but jump up a bit, oy. He turned to the bird master, blinking and zoning out before finally snappin back into reality. "Falkner?" He gave another small smile. "Oh! No, not at all... I think."

When his hand ruffled her hair, messing it up, Whitney pouted and crossed her arms. "Aww, Morty, you know I hate it when you do that!" She pulled her hair out of her low pigtails and combed it gently with her fingers before returning it to its former glory and smiling proudly.
"Oh... Well, that's no fun!" She turned to the challenger, clasping her hands behind her back. "Hey! I remember you! You don't mind waiting a little bit for you badge, right? Thought so," she said quickly, not even giving the challenger a chance to answer her.
Whitney cringed at the sound of the door and even more when she saw who was standing there. She bit the inside of her cheek and waved her hand dismissively. "Nah, it's fine. You're not interrupting anything."

"Good." He turned back to Morty. "You know, if you cleaned up around here every once in a while, it would be easier to find a book." He chuckled, then turned to the red-head. "Perhaps we should help Morty out here a bit, Whitney-chan. After all, it is rude to keep a hard-working challenger waiting."

The man chuckled hesitantly, scratching the back of his head as he turned to the pile of books, then back to Whitney, and finally to Falkner. "Well you know I've never been the cleanest guy, heh." After a well place sigh, the man picked up a book and blew the dust off of the cover onto the girl, grinning. He was actually looking for an adventure, but priorities come first.
"That would be for the best, though. Why don't you fly on over here and feather dust these shelfs so I can take on this challenger?" He tossed the book over to him, laughing at his lame pun. He was proud of his puns, man.

Falkner cracked a grin. He wasn't one to laugh much, but Morty's lame puns always managed to break him. That, plus the fact that Morty just blew dust onto Whitney made it enough for him to chuckle heartily.
"Of course, I'd be happy to help." He looked around, as if he was searching for something. "Erm...Morty? You don't appear to have a proper feather duster."

When the dust hit her face, Whitney coughed ans waved it away with her hand. She crossed her arms across her chest and pouted childishly. "That wasn't funny, Morty- Ah...ah... Achoo!" She rubbed her nose with the back of her hand, still pouting. "Hmph."
"Fine. I'll just wait around until both of you are finished, then. Wait-- What about the scarves?" she asked, holding onto Morty's arm. "We can go shopping when everything is finished, right?"

"The least you could do is help us out. If you want to make it back in time for your scarf sale, you should aid Morty." He crossed his arms.

Whitney blinked and leaned against a nearby wall. "Uh, I don't really think I'm allowed to help him, Falkner. He's battling a challenger..."

He rolled his eyes. This girl was so dense sometimes. "I meant help him by aiding me in cleaning up around here. The physical labor might do you some good..."

He stood there and blinked at he two quarreling, mouth open but unsure of what to say. He shook his head with an uneasy smile, turning to Whitney and giving her a custom kiss on the forehead, like he always did when she was upset.
"Heh, sorry about the dust, princess!" He laughed a bit, unable to stay serious for long among his friends. Tapping his foot lightly on the wooden floor of the gym, he looked back to Falkner and wagged his finger at the boy. "Hey now," he started, reaching into his pocket for his wallet, tossing a few pokedollars at him. "I guess I lot my feather duster... Again. Why don't you and Whitney go buy one and clean up while I take this challenger, and then we can head over to Goldenrod for those scarfs!" he chuckled heartily at himself, glad of his compromise. "We'll be done in no time!"
