Whitney jumped to her feet, the irritation showing clear on her face. She scowled at the flying type master. "Was that a fat joke?" The face softened at the kiss Morty planted on her forehead, and she relaxed again with the addition of sticking her tongue out at Falkner childishly the moment Morty looked away.
She sighed and walked towards the door, stopping to call over her shoulder, "Are you coming, Falky~?"

Falkner's mouth hung agape. Why was she instantly forgiven? He shook his head. "Fine, that sounds like a fair compromise. Let's go."
His fists were clenched around the money so tight, his knuckles were beginning to turn white. As soon as they were outside, he looked her straight in the eyes. "And no, that wasn't a fat joke. A gentleman never calls a woman fat, even if she happens to be."

Clair's feet touched the earth nimbly after lifting herself from the back of her Dragonite. "Alright, Champ, back in your monster ball." She held the red and white capsule out for the pokémon, who in turn nudged the button in the center with his bulbous snout. The sphere ommited a beam of crimson light which enveloped the dragon and pulled him in. From there, the blue haired girl stepped into the mart and, ignoring the shop assistant's welcome, began browsing the selection. "Ugh. This commute friggin' sucks." Clair sighed. "Really, why do I have to come all the way to Ecruteak just to pick up some crappy charms...".

Whitney skipped up to the shop door, Falkner trailing not too far behind her. The bell above the door rang as she made her way into the store, and she waved cheerfully at the shopkeeper when he greeted her.
"Hmm... I wonder where the cleaning supplies are," she mumbled, stumbling through the aisles in search of the feather duster. Not paying attention, she accidentally walked into a woman in the next aisle. "Oh, miss, I'm sorry-- Claire, is that you?" Whitney squeaked and jumped back. She had always been intimidated by the dragon type master.

Clair looked through the various charms the store had, unable to tell the difference between the various different types. (Didn't they all do the same thing--ward off ghost-type pokemon, that is.) Nevertheless, the blue-haired brute selected a few ranomly and turned towards the front desk when... WHAMO! Another body collided with her own, causing no pain but a great deal of irritation. "Christ lady, watch where you're--" Clair glanced up to see that the pig-tailed damsel before her was her fellow gym leader, Whitney. Even white as a sheet with terror, the dunce looked beautiful. Clair envied her to such a degree; she'd always wished for a cute face, petite body, perky boobs and that stupid attitude all of the boys went crazy over. Clair now accepted that she was a tyrant, and the only thing she invoked in the pants of a male was accidental urination from unequivocal fear. "Oh, Whitney!" Clair said, calmed down a bit. "I see you're just as air-headed as ever. What are you doing here?"

Whitney paled even more. She was too afraid to even retort at the air headed comment. Almost everyone knew better than to start an argument with Clair. She smiled sheepishly, waving her hands frantically in front of her. "A-ah, hello, Clair! I'm just here looking for a feather duster with, um, Falkner... Actually," she stood on her tiptoes as if she could see above the aisles and find him, "he should be around here somewhere."

Clair let out a loud, menacing cackle and threw her arm around Whitney's shoulder. "Well geez, Dim-Whit," Clair chuckled again at her wordplay. This statement was not an insult, but an example of Clair's abrasive attempt at friendliness. "The cleaning supplies are clear on the other side of the store! You'd think you'd know that better than I would." The dragon tamer then lead (or dragged) the Goldenrod girl to the haven of the featherdusters. "Where is birdbrains anyway?"

"Right here." He waved two feather dusters at them. "What a surprise to see you here, Clair-san. Although I don't particularly enjoy being referred to as bird-brain." He frowned.
"Anyway, I found one for you too." He thrust a feather duster in Whitney's direction. "Chances are you don't have one either."

Whitney smiled, glad that Clair wasn't upset with her. The word play went right over her head. She attempted to keep pace with the other gym leader. "Oh, I totally knew that! Falkner? Well, he's uh--"
Speak of the devil. She caught the feather duster when he threw it. "Actually, I do, but I don't really think it'd be convenient to run back to Goldenrod to grab it. I don't carry it around with me."

"Oh come off of it, Falkner. You know I don't mean anything by it." Clair smiled and moved away from Whitney, filling in the gap between the girls and Falkner. She held her charms against her hip and gandered at her two peers. "Why do you two need dusters anyway? Was't spring cleaning a month or so ago?" Clair used her rough fingers to brush away the hair that had fallen in her face. She wore her hair down outside of the gym, for addressing the formal "do" not only exhausted her time and energy but hair spray supply as well.

Whitney's face lit up, glad to be on the subject of her close friend again. "Oh! Well, I went to visit Morty at his gym because there's a sale on scarves, and I figured I could help him pick out some new ones, but he was cleaning a room and looking for a book and had a challenger. Then, Falkner showed up and volunteered us to clean, but Morty doesn't have a feather duster, so here we are!" She spoke so quickly that it was a wonder anyone could understand her.

"Precisely what she said." Falkner nodded in agreement.
"Not that that's particularly exciting. What brings you here, anyway?"

EDIT!
Clair concentrated intently to Whitney's explanation, only able to pick up fragments of the message. Something about a challenging book sale. Whatever it was, Clair decided she would invite herself along and volunteer her services. "Well, I could use a new scarf..." Clair wondered aloud. "It sure does get chilly up in Blackthorn, even in the summer months. That's it! I'm going with you guys. But I guess I should help clean then." "There is a band of ghost pokemon hanging around town, and my new Deino, who just hatched about a week ago, is deftly afraid of them. I wanted to take them out with my Kingdra, but Gramps advised against it. So I had to come all the way down here to gets some charms." Clair opened her clutched hand and revealed said charms to Falkner. "Hey, you guys wait here, be right back." Clair sprinted to the cleaning aisle and grabbed a towelette and dusting spray, then came speeding back. "Alright! Everyone ready?"

Whitney clasped her hands together and smiled brightly, already at ease with the other woman. She figured that Clair wasn't so scary as long as you stayed on her good side. "Great! I'm sure Morty will be glad-- Plus, it doesn't hurt to have another girl around."
