“Alright. Let’s go.”
Two figures ambled purposefully along the grubby sidewalk. They walked quietly together along the back alleyways and around busy intersections (it was pretty much common knowledge that Veilstone traffic wasn’t the best) as if this had been repeated many, many times before. One of the figures was a young girl with vivid pink hair, taking long strides with an effortless spring in her step and nearly perfect balance and posture. Her face was screwed into a kind of look of concentration and eagerness. She avoided all the sidewalk cracks.
Maylene took the familiar steps up to the Veilstone Game Corner, a small“arcade” where her father spent the better part of many of his days. She knew where he was- always in the same spot- he had deemed it the luckiest slot machine.
“Papa,” she began, before noticing a bright animated Clefairy jump out onto the screen. She let her voice trail off before starting again, feeling her eyebrows knit together.
“Papa… I don’t… I… Papa. Oh, look at all the coins you got today.”
She could hear her father beaming as he muttered about his Bonus Round chains and the coins he had accumulated.
“Mmm, yeah, I did well today. The battles were really invigorating! Really hard-fought, especially against this lass I met today- I… hey Daddy, can we go home now?” Her voice was rising impatiently and childishly as she watched her father’s interest in her story wane.
“You’re never home, Papa, except in the mornings when you nap all day. I’m still young, and I shouldn’t be here waiting for you… Why don’t you find yourself a lady? Are you listening to me?” Her face was rising in color additionally, cheeks flushing pink like her hair and her mouth in a pout. The Game Corner’s usually boisterous atmosphere was now hushed. A few cheers rang out now and then, followed by the clink of coins being dispensed. Lucario slumped the floor and examined his paws.
“Ahgh! I’m leaving, and I mean it this time. I need to be out in the world and I need to travel. I need to try new things… eat new foods… I need to meet new people. I took this position because of you, Daddy,” she added firmly. This had to work. That was her trump card.
He spun the reel again, replying that he’d be home in a just few more hours. Disappointment. Maylene let out a long and aggravated groan before sticking her tongue out and turning to leave. With determined steps, she marched toward the entrance before twisting her head to peek at her father, who gave her a little wink.
Maylene turned to raise her eyebrows at Lucario. The Pokemon blinked back at her in understanding.
“Wanna take a walk?”
(OOC: Yeah, I lazily copied and pasted this from a dead RP...
But it's longer than it's supposed to be, haha. No pressure, I don't usually write this long.)
