Flint's eyes slit. He thought Volkner was being such an unappreciative, whiny guy lately. He was self-pitying, yet at the same time, arrogant in that quiet way of his. Flint was annoyed at how Volkner thought his position was no big deal. Flint knew that he would definitely regret it if he lost that position, at least in time. So he wouldn't do anything about it. He'd just have to find someone to bring his spirits back up. Until then though, Volkner would continue to sink into his emotional rut.
"Look at me and tell me you don't want to be Gym Leader anymore." He actually kind of feared his response.

Unrattled by his friend's words, the blue prius driver coated Gym Leader turned to face his best friend. No amount of courage could be put into Volkner's mouth. As much as Volkner wanted to say the words, he couldn't give up his dream. For a majority of Volkner's life, he had always wanted to be a Gym Leader, but he didn't anticipate the lot of inexperienced trainers challenging him. All Volkner could do was stare at Flint, as Flint had beamed at him.

"… That's what I thought."
Flint's fists loosened, and he took a deep breath. He couldn't keep grudges, especially against Volkner. His facial expression slowly softened, and he exhaled, closing his eyes. When he opened them, he was staring at Volkner with a blank face.
"It'll get better. I promise."

At a loss for words, Volkner fell silent. He could not bear to be the loser of any battle, whether if it's a Pokémon battle, or a verbal battle. All he could do was puff a cloud of smoke into Flint's face, an action that was a bitter one.
Volkner turned away, not wanting to face Flint. He faced towards the rising sun, the light shining on his delicate face. He slipped on one in his pocket, with the other holding a cigarette, letting a trail of smoke escape it's end.
"I really hope you're right, Flint. I didn't sign up to breeze through battles."

Flint's face scrunched up with disgust at the smoke blown in his face, but he didn't move from his spot. As it cleared up, he calmed back down to his normal self and suddenly placed his hand on the shorter man's shoulder.
"Don't be mad at me. I just want you to be happy, Volkner." He mustered up a smile. "I promise you it will get better. If it doesn't, you can shave off my 'fro or something. I'm that serious." He grinned, hoping the blonde would at least look at him.

Volkner stared at Flint with astonishment. "Shave your fro?" Questioned Volkner, looking up at the taller man suspiciously. "Are you.. high? You've kept that afro since we were kids, Flint. There's no way you'd let me shave it off you for my sake."

"Well, that's how much I'm willing to bet." He laughed lightly. "…And yeah, I would."
He felt much more relieved. He put an arm over his shoulders and looked up at the sky. "Cheer up, okay? I know it's hard to cheer up, but you're with the best person in the world right now!" Him, obviously. His grin was permanent.

At this moment, Volkner involuntarily tensed up. He strongly dislike being touched by people in a friendly, personal manner. However, he started to relax his muscles, because he was comfortable with Flint. Volkner decided to shrug off Flint anyway, despite their closeness with each other.
"Whatever." scoffed Volkner in a teasingly way. "You're not even close to being the best person in the world." He looks at his only friend, who's looking up at the grand sky. Volkner, in turn, does the same.
